I recently came across this TEDx talk by Jeet Banerjee, a 20 year old serial entrepreneur!
He talks about answering the question—when is the right time to start pursuing your dreams? It turns out that the right time is apparently when you are exactly 25 years old! (You have to view the video to get this joke). I’ve missed that window of opportunity, unfortunately—I’m not saying how old I am, but let’s just say I’m a bit north of 25.
Actually, as you might imagine, the right time is always—right now. And it occurred to me that this same concept should apply to the question—when is the right time to start implementing a robust software asset management (SAM) program? Many organizations have delayed implementing a SAM program because there are many other priorities. In fact, the list of top CIO priorities for 2015 included the following, according to this Forbes article—The Top 10 Strategic CIO Issues for 2015, from February of this year:
