Many organisations attempt to manage their software licence compliance through a number of sporadic processes, procedures, tasks and activities split across different departments which are not centralised. If there are no centralised agreed processes to manage the software assets across a business, then there will be conflicting processes being followed which are not consistent nor standardised. This is often the case when the organisation is not working towards a common SAM strategy to achieving a mature SAM service.
Whatever advanced or limited SAM technology, data, people and policies an organisation has, this should not prevent it from building and implementing centralised SAM processes.
Without understanding and agreeing efficient SAM processes, you cannot confidently document and follow all of the procedures (step by step work instructions), to ensure that all processes are achieved.
