The ISO ITAM Standards Committee (WG21) is happy to announce the publication of ISO/IEC 19770-8. This standard provides guidance on the mapping of industry practices to/from the ISO/IEC 19770 series.
This first (2020) edition of ISO/IEC 19770-8 focuses on ISO/IEC 19770-1, though future editions may cover additional ISO/IEC 19770 standards. ISO/IEC 19770-8 provides guidance and a template for mapping industry practices (ISO or other) to/from 19770-1, and it does not include any mapping itself. We hope that industry bodies and/or individuals would take up the challenge and develop such mapping based on ISO/IEC 19770-8 framework.
Given the significant overlap and interdependencies between ITAM and other industry practices (cybersecurity, IT governance, and IT service management, to name a few), we believe that a standardized ability to map the various requirements within ISO/IEC 19770 to the requirements in other industry practices would be beneficial.
ISO/IEC 19770-8 joins the other 5 published ITAM standards:
ISO/IEC 19770-1:2017 ITAM — PART 1: IT ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS — REQUIREMENTS (3rd edition)
ISO/IEC 19770-2:2015 ITAM — PART 2: SOFTWARE IDENTIFICATION TAG (2nd edition)
ISO/IEC 19770-3:2016 ITAM — PART 3: ENTITLEMENT SCHEMA (1st edition)
ISO/IEC 19770-4:2017 ITAM — PART 4: RESOURCE UTILIZATION MEASUREMENT (1st edition)
ISO/IEC 19770-5:2015 ITAM — PART 5: OVERVIEW AND VOCABULARY (2nd edition)
