Welcome to our latest installment of Process of the Month – this month we are looking at the Software Removal Process, an often over-looked process within Software Asset Management, which considering its value to SAM as a whole is particularly surprising.

The reasons for removing software are:

  • Economies of scope – fewer installations means less work to do to justify adherence to licences and contracts
  • Improved Security – fewer installations means fewer potential holes to plug in protecting the data you value
  • Financial benefits – feral software not installed should not demand support and maintenance to be paid on it
  • Config Management – done right, the removal of software can influence the refreshing of schemas within your CMDB
